Dubrovnik Museums

Dubrovnik Museums is the official institution responsible for managing the city’s main public museums and cultural heritage venues, including the celebrated Rector’s Palace, the City Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, and the House of Marin Držić. Together these venues form a comprehensive network of cultural institutions that illuminate the remarkable history and culture of Dubrovnik, formerly the independent Republic of Ragusa. The Rector’s Palace, located in the heart of the Old City, is the flagship site of Dubrovnik Museums. This stunning Gothic-Renaissance palace served as the seat of government of the Republic of Ragusa for several centuries and today houses an extensive collection of furniture, portraits, weaponry, coins, and decorative art that evoke the atmosphere of the former republic. The Maritime Museum, located in the Fort of St John, chronicles the extraordinary seafaring heritage of Dubrovnik and includes model ships, navigational instruments, and maritime documents spanning several centuries. The Ethnographic Museum, housed in the historic Rupe granary, presents an outstanding collection of folk costumes, tools, and household objects from the Dubrovnik hinterland and the wider Dalmatian region. The House of Marin Držić celebrates the life and works of Dubrovnik’s most famous playwright, a leading figure of Renaissance literature in the Croatian language. All sites are accessible with a combined ticket and are within easy walking distance of each other within the walled city. Dubrovnik Museums regularly organises temporary exhibitions, educational programmes, and guided tours in multiple languages.
