Description

Auberge Café du Sud is one of Morocco’s most storied desert hotels, founded in 1986 when the owners set up the very first tent near the dunes to welcome travellers. Now a well-developed auberge, it sits directly on the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, in the southeast of Morocco, and has been online since 2003 as the first hotel in the region with an internet presence. The property offers a diversity of accommodation including standard rooms, suites, and luxury and royal tented bivouacs positioned at the edge of the dunes, all decorated in authentic Sahara style that reflects the region’s nomadic heritage. Guests can enjoy a swimming pool, a restaurant serving generous Moroccan buffet meals, and a dedicated team who organise camel treks, quad bike tours, 4WD desert excursions, and overnight stays at private desert camps. The auberge is particularly renowned for its warm hospitality, immersive cultural experiences including tea with nomad families, and visits to the village of Khamlia to experience live Gnawa music. Each room is uniquely decorated, blending traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with comfortable modern amenities. Auberge Café du Sud is an ideal base for exploring the broader Draa-Tafilalet region and provides an unforgettable introduction to life on the edge of the Moroccan Sahara.
