Description
Yamazato at Hotel Okura Amsterdam holds a unique place in culinary history as the first traditional Japanese kaiseki restaurant outside Japan to be awarded a Michelin star, a distinction it has held without interruption since 2002. Located on the ground floor of the five-star Hotel Okura Amsterdam, the restaurant is entirely dedicated to kaiseki ryori, the classical Japanese haute cuisine that dates back to the 16th century and is defined by its devotion to seasonal ingredients, precision, harmony, and visual artistry. Executive Chef Masanori Tomikawa, who has led the kitchen for over a decade, presents an exclusively set menu format, offering guests a multi-course journey through Japan’s culinary traditions. Ingredients are frequently flown in directly from Japan to ensure authenticity, and the menu changes with the seasons to reflect the purity of each ingredient at its peak. The dining room is an architectural tribute to Japan, featuring warm natural wood, traditional Sukiya-style partitions, and floor-to-ceiling views of the hotel’s serene Japanese garden. Female servers dressed in traditional kimono add to the immersive atmosphere, while a private tatami room is available for intimate group occasions. Yamazato offers one of the most culturally distinctive fine dining experiences in Europe, combining centuries-old Japanese culinary philosophy with the highest standards of Dutch hospitality.
