Kumon Math and Reading Center of Midtown West

Kumon Math and Reading Center of Midtown West is part of the world’s largest after-school academic enrichment program, serving children from preschool through 12th grade in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Founded on the educational philosophy of Toru Kumon, a Japanese math teacher who developed individualized learning worksheets to help his own son excel, the Kumon method uses a self-paced, worksheet-based approach to build strong foundations in mathematics and reading. Each child begins at a level appropriate to their current ability and advances step by logical step, regardless of age or grade. The math program covers counting, arithmetic, fractions, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and probability, while the reading program builds vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and analytical skills. Many Kumon students progress well beyond their grade level, developing the confidence and discipline to approach academic challenges independently. The Midtown West center also offers a digital platform, Kumon Connect, which allows students to complete worksheets using a tablet and stylus. Classes run Tuesday through Friday in the afternoons and on Saturday mornings, making it convenient for families with school-aged children.
