Craft Draft Fes
Description
Craft Draft is a distinguished artisan studio operating from the historic Funduk Khrashfiyen in the heart of the Fes Medina, a caravanserai dating back to the mid-1800s. The studio was originally established as Dar Attamania in 1968 by master brass-smith Mokhtar El Fasiki, head of the brass-smith guild, and was passed on to his son and apprentice Hamza El Fasiki in 2011, who rebranded it as Craft Draft. The studio specializes in three interlinked traditional Moroccan crafts: at-Tastir (Moroccan geometric pattern drawing), at-Tasfir (traditional leather bookbinding), and brass engraving using hand-forged dividers and chisels. Techniques of brass engraving at Craft Draft date back to the early 11th century and represent a living, transgenerational legacy. Craft Draft offers online courses, in-person workshops in Fes, and curated study trips to Morocco for international participants, as well as a shop selling handcrafted copper clocks, geometric artworks, and leather-bound notebooks. The studio also runs an apprenticeship program in partnership with the Medina Children’s Library, empowering young residents of the Fes medina with ancestral artistic skills. Craft Draft is recognized by major travel publications and cultural organizations as one of the most authentic artisan workshops in Morocco.
