Los Tacos No. 1 was born out of a shared dream between three close friends from Tijuana, Mexico, and Brawley, California, who wanted to bring the authentic flavors of street-style Mexican tacos to the East Coast. What started as a small counter inside Chelsea Market has grown into one of New York City’s most celebrated fast food destinations, earning a devoted following of locals and visitors alike. The menu is intentionally focused and rooted in tradition: carne asada, pollo asado, adobada (marinated pork), and nopal (cactus) form the heart of the offering, each cooked fresh on a plancha and served in warm corn or flour tortillas. Quesadillas and tostadas round out the menu, while agua frescas provide the perfect drink pairing. Every element — from the tortillas to the salsas — is made in-house following time-honored family recipes. The setup is standing room only, replicating the street taco culture of Tijuana, where speed, freshness, and bold flavor take center stage.
