Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech
Description
The Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, officially known as mYSLm, opened in October 2017 and stands as one of the most celebrated cultural institutions in Morocco. Located just steps away from the legendary Jardin Majorelle on Rue Yves Saint Laurent, this 4,000 square metre museum was designed by Studio KO and built by the Moroccan subsidiary of Bouygues. Its distinctive red brick facade, reminiscent of the weave of fabric, received the Best New Public Building award at the 2018 Wallpaper Design Awards. The museum pays tribute to Yves Saint Laurent, who discovered Marrakech in 1966 and drew lasting inspiration from Morocco’s colors, textiles, and architecture. The permanent exhibition of 400 square metres presents some 5,000 garments and 15,000 haute couture accessories alongside sketches, photographs, and audiovisual materials that bring Saint Laurent’s creative process to life. A hall for temporary exhibitions showcases both retrospective and contemporary work, while a 140-seat auditorium hosts film screenings, concerts, and lectures. The museum also features a research library of over 5,000 volumes, a bookshop, and Le Studio Café, a terrace café that overlooks a tranquil reflecting pool and lush garden. The mYSLm is open every day except Wednesdays and forms part of the Fondation Jardin Majorelle’s cultural complex.
