Villa des Arts de Rabat
Description
The Villa des Arts de Rabat is a multifunctional contemporary art space inaugurated on 13 December 2006 by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa. It is the Rabat counterpart to the Villa des Arts in Casablanca and is managed by the Fondation Al Mada, Morocco’s leading private cultural philanthropy. The villa is housed in a beautifully restored neocolonial mansion dating from 1929, located in the prestigious Hassan district of Rabat near the Assounna Mosque and within easy walking distance of the city’s major landmarks. The surrounding park, meticulously maintained and planted with mature trees and flowering shrubs, creates an oasis of calm in the capital and features outdoor sculptures and a pleasant garden café. Spanning multiple indoor exhibition spaces, the Villa des Arts de Rabat operates as a dynamic and multidisciplinary cultural centre. Its galleries host rotating temporary exhibitions of contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, and conceptual art by Moroccan and international artists, often featuring the works of celebrated masters such as Chaïbia Talal, Jilali Gharbaoui, Ahmed Cherkaoui, and Mohamed Kacimi. Beyond visual arts, the villa regularly stages film screenings, literary events, theatre performances, music concerts, and conferences. A dedicated village of artists’ studios known as the Village des Artistes allows resident artists to work on-site and interact with the public. Admission is free and the villa is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 AM to 7 PM.
