Stadin ammatti- ja aikuisopisto (Stadin AO), the Helsinki Vocational College and Adult Institute, is the largest vocational education and training institution in Helsinki, Finland, and one of the most significant VET providers in the Nordic region. Established through the merger of several Helsinki City vocational institutions, Stadin AO operates across multiple campuses in Helsinki and offers vocational qualifications in more than 40 occupational fields ranging from technology and construction to health and social services, hospitality, cultural arts, business and administration, transportation, and natural resources. The college serves approximately 10,000 full-time students and a substantial adult learner population completing qualifications through competence-based assessments (nayttotutkinnot) and further vocational development programmes. Stadin AO is a public institution under the City of Helsinki and operates under the Finnish VET Act, which allows learners to demonstrate their professional competence through practical demonstration rather than purely examination-based assessment. The college maintains extensive employer partnerships across the Helsinki metropolitan area, ensuring strong links between education and the local labour market. Stadin AO also participates in Erasmus+ international mobility and cooperation projects.
