Funk Optik is a one-of-a-kind optical atelier located in the historic brick vaulted cellars of a former horse stable at Oranienburger Strasse 87 in Berlin Mitte — a setting as unique as the glasses produced there. The store is both an optical boutique and a working glasses-making workshop, making it one of the very few places in Germany where clients can watch their frames being handcrafted on the premises. Funk Optik produces its own exclusive Berlin eyewear collection under the label BSB — Bright Sight Berlin — all items of which are manufactured entirely on-site in what the team calls the Funky Underground, using traditional techniques and premium materials. This genuine commitment to craftsmanship, provenance, and creative freedom sets Funk Optik apart from virtually every other optical retailer in the German capital. The store offers a full professional optical service, including precise refraction and eye examination, contact lens fitting, and progressive varifocal advice. Prescription lens processing and glazing are carried out in-house using the store’s own workshop, ensuring complete quality control at every stage. German optical glass from the respected Rupp and Hubrach manufacturer is used as standard. Beyond its own handmade label, Funk Optik carries a selected range of distinctive frame brands from Germany and internationally. Appointments are welcome, and the relaxed, distinctive atmosphere encourages clients to take time over their selection. Coffee and refreshments are offered during consultations.
