Lawrie Shabibi
Description
Lawrie Shabibi was founded in 2010 by William Lawrie and Asmaa Al-Shabibi, opening its doors in early 2011 in a 3,000 sq ft warehouse at Alserkal Avenue. It has since become one of the foremost and most internationally active contemporary art galleries in Dubai, consistently recognised for the quality and rigour of its programme. The gallery represents a cross-generational range of artists from the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond, including Hamra Abbas, Mounir Fatmi, Dima Srouji, Mehdi Moutashar, Timo Nasseri, Rana Begum, Mona Saudi, and Mandy El Sayegh. Exhibitions are complemented by screenings, talks, and scholarly catalogues, and the gallery participates actively in international fairs including Art Basel, Frieze, and Abu Dhabi Art. It also curates historical exhibitions of an older generation of artists from the region, contributing to the scholarly documentation of Arab modern art. A London outpost at Cromwell Place extends its international reach. Works by represented artists have been shown at the Venice Biennale, Manifesta, and major institutional exhibitions worldwide. Open Monday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm. Lawrie Shabibi has played a defining role in shaping the contemporary art landscape of the Gulf, and remains an indispensable destination for collectors and curators visiting Dubai.
