Kiviõli Adventure Centre
Description
Kiviõli Adventure Centre is Estonia’s most thrilling and unique year-round outdoor destination, built on the slopes of a 90-metre artificial hill formed from industrial oil shale waste accumulated between 1922 and 1967 in the town of Kiviõli in northeastern Estonia. What was once an environmental legacy of the Soviet-era oil shale industry has been transformed into one of the Baltic region’s most exciting adventure tourism resorts, attracting over 34,000 visitors annually from across Estonia and beyond. In winter, the hill becomes a full alpine ski and snowboard resort with four downhill slopes of 400 to 700 metres, a snowboard park with jumps, rails, and boxes for all riding levels, a snowtubing run, and a certified ski school offering lessons for beginners through to advanced riders. The ski lifts and machine-made snow systems ensure reliable conditions throughout the season. In summer, the slopes transform into a remarkable adventure park with Estonia’s longest zip line at 600 metres, high-altitude rope adventure courses at four different heights suitable from age four, a freeride bicycle trail with escalator lifts, a pumptrack for bikes, skateboards and inline skates, a mountain car track, and a motocross centre with Estonia’s first world championship course. The family adventure park at the base of the hill includes an excavator experience, a firefighting academy, electric motor boats on an artificial lake, a traffic city for children, a science theatre with daily performances, a playground for the very youngest visitors, and disc golf. With activities from age two to adult, Kiviõli Adventure Centre genuinely delivers on its promise of being an adventure destination for the whole family and all seasons.
