Description

Miraikan, officially known as The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, is a premier science and technology museum located in the Odaiba district of Koto, Tokyo. Opened in 2001 by Japan’s Science and Technology Agency, the museum is a dynamic, hands-on destination that bridges cutting-edge scientific research with engaging public education. The museum’s signature exhibit, the Geo-Cosmos, is a massive LED sphere suspended from the ceiling that projects a stunningly realistic image of Earth in space, upgraded with HDR panels and over 10 million pixel resolution. Visitors of all ages can explore exhibitions across several themed zones, including the Explore the Frontiers zone covering the universe, Earth’s environment, and the origins of human life, and an Information Science zone examining the digital future. Interactive corners such as Nanairo Quest make science tangible for children, with hands-on activities, experiments, and discovery challenges. The museum also operates a Dome Theater offering immersive full-dome screenings of space and science films, with seats available for reservation. Miraikan features ASIMO, Honda’s famous humanoid robot, and hosts regular special exhibitions on topics ranging from artificial intelligence to biodiversity. A dedicated cafe, science gift shop, and family-accessible facilities round out the experience. The museum is a five-minute walk from Tokyo International Cruise Terminal Station on the Yurikamome Line.
