Hotel Anteroom Kyoto
Description
Hotel Anteroom Kyoto is a genuinely singular accommodation housed in a sensitively converted former school building in the Minami-ku district, just south of Kyoto Station. Operated by UDS Hotels — a small boutique Japanese operator — the property has established itself as one of Kyoto’s most creatively engaging stays. The on-site gallery, GALLERY9.5, showcases rotating exhibitions by Kyoto-based contemporary artists, and individual guestrooms have been designed as art installations by collaborating creators including internationally recognised artists Kohei Nawa and photographer Mika Ninagawa. The hotel offers 120 rooms across two styles: compact standard rooms with contemporary neutral design and a limited number of artist-designed rooms with unique bespoke interiors. All rooms feature air conditioning, free high-speed Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and private bathrooms. An on-site restaurant serves a buffet breakfast using locally sourced Kyoto vegetables, and ANTEROOM BAR provides an atmospheric evening lounge. Guests enjoy free use of bicycles, a launderette, and shared internet PCs. Kujo Station on the Karasuma Line is an 8-minute walk away, with JR Kyoto Station one stop further. Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine is 10 minutes by taxi, and the historic Tofukuji Temple is reachable in 10 minutes by bus.
