Description

Avra Rockefeller Center is the most ambitious project to date from The Avra Group, founded by restaurateur Nick Tsoulos. Opened in 2022, the restaurant occupies a stunning 10,000-square-foot three-floor space at 1271 Avenue of the Americas, directly across the street from Radio City Music Hall and within the historic Time-Life Building. The interior design evokes the whitewashed islands of Greece, with flowing white surfaces, cascading greenery, a central bar, and an open-air feel on the plaza level. The restaurant’s defining feature is its daily display of Mediterranean seafood on ice, including whole fish flown in fresh from Greece, langoustines, lobsters, and seasonal catches from both the Eastern Mediterranean and North American waters, all available to be selected by guests and prepared to their specification. Dishes follow the Avra philosophy of pure ingredients and simple preparations: grilled whole fish drizzled with olive oil and lemon, classic Greek salads with barrel-aged feta, charcoal-grilled octopus, fresh-shucked oysters from the raw bar, and a broad selection of meze and spreads including taramosalata, tzatziki, and htipiti served with warm house-made pita. The restaurant features multiple private event spaces including the Skylight Room, Athena Room, Wine Villa, and Mezzanine, accommodating groups of 25 to 70. For large events, a full restaurant buyout accommodating up to 80 standing guests is available. The wine list features a well-curated selection of Greek and Mediterranean bottles.
