Shōyu Ramen Shop
Description
Shōyu is a celebrated Japanese ramen shop and izakaya in Riga that has earned an outstanding reputation both locally and internationally. In 2024, it became the first ramen restaurant in all of Europe to receive the Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction, an honour it has proudly retained through 2026. Founded by owner Artjoms Ļašenko, whose passion for authentic Japanese ramen was ignited during a visit to Tokyo in 2014, Shōyu is built on a philosophy of rigorous authenticity and craftsmanship. Every component of the ramen is made by hand in-house, including the noodles, which are crafted daily using a specially blended flour that incorporates high-quality Japanese variants. The broths are rich, full-flavoured, and carefully layered, available in classic varieties such as Premium Shōyu with truffle infusion and duck sous vide, Ichiran Tonkotsu, Sapporo Miso, and a thoughtfully prepared vegan option. Starters including gyoza, tataki, and kushiyaki complement the bowls, while Japanese sake sets and creative cocktails round out the drinks menu. The interior draws from Japanese minimalism, featuring natural tones, green moss colours, and traditional noren fabric dividers. With a warm, buzzing atmosphere and a terrace for warmer months, Shōyu offers an immersive slice of Japanese food culture in the Latvian capital.
