Driss Kettani Architecte
Description
Driss Kettani Architecte is one of Morocco’s most celebrated architectural practices, based in Casablanca and internationally recognised for its thoughtful, culturally embedded approach to design. Founded in 2005 by Driss Kettani, a graduate of the National School of Architecture in Rabat, the firm has built a distinguished portfolio spanning educational facilities, residential projects, and civic buildings.
Driss Kettani’s approach is grounded in a constant engagement with place, culture, and the people who inhabit buildings. Each project begins with a rigorous contextual analysis, seeking to understand the specific geographic, social, and historical conditions of a site before any design decisions are made. This methodology results in architecture that feels deeply rooted in its context while also expressing a confident contemporary identity.
Among the firm’s most celebrated works are the Polydisciplinary Faculty of Taroudant and the Superior School of Technology of Guelmim, both completed in collaboration with architects Saad El Kabbaj and Mohamed Amine Siana. These projects have been exhibited in New York, Paris, Venice, and Milan, and the Guelmim school was shortlisted for the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2016.
Driss Kettani has also received the Mimar Sinan Prize in Istanbul and the Archmarathon Prize in Beirut. In addition to his practice, Kettani is a lecturer at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and has contributed to international architectural discourse through publications, lectures, and jury memberships. The firm handles a broad range of project types, from private residences to large-scale institutional commissions.
