Unimark Portugal

Unimark (Unimarketing) is an independent Portuguese purchasing cooperative founded in 1996, uniting 19 privately-owned wholesale and retail food companies operating a total of 40 cash-and-carry locations and a network of approximately 1,500 associated independent supermarkets and minimarkets across Portugal. As a member-owned cooperative with no external corporate shareholders, Unimark’s primary mission is to provide its independent operator members with the collective purchasing power, logistics infrastructure and private-label development that individual businesses cannot access alone. The cooperative manages its own private-label range of over 600 food and non-food products under the UP brand, and supports its member retailers through the Aqui é Fresco, A Nossa Loja and Viva retail banner networks. In 2008 Unimark partnered with Euromadi (Spain) and in 2011 joined EMD European Marketing Distribution — the largest European purchasing group — through its subsidiary Euromadiport, gaining access to European-level supplier negotiations and private-label development. As a genuinely member-controlled, independent Portuguese operator, Unimark is the backbone of Portugal’s independent food wholesale and retail distribution sector.
