Description

Founded in 2016 by Tim Brown and Joey Zwillinger, Allbirds was built on the radical premise that natural materials make better, more comfortable footwear than synthetic alternatives — while also being significantly better for the planet. The brand’s signature Wool Runners, made from New Zealand merino wool, gained international acclaim for their extraordinary softness, temperature regulation, and breathability, attracting a devoted global following. In Tokyo, Allbirds opened its first Japanese physical store in Harajuku in January 2020, followed by the Marunouchi location, which sits in one of the capital’s most prominent business districts. Each Allbirds product is engineered with sustainability as a baseline requirement: wool is sourced from farms meeting the Responsible Wool Standard, eucalyptus fiber (used in the Tree Runners) is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, and the SweetFoam sole is made from sugarcane-derived green EVA, the world’s first carbon-negative foam. The brand measures and offsets the carbon footprint of every product, openly publishing its carbon life cycle assessments and committing to reducing its carbon footprint per product by 50 percent by 2025. The Marunouchi store carries the full range of footwear and expanding apparel line, and the brand offers a take-back program in Japan for used shoes, partnering with recycling organizations to ensure end-of-life products do not end up in landfill. Allbirds Japan operates the website allbirds.jp and a dedicated Japanese customer service line, making the full experience accessible to Tokyo residents and visitors alike.
