Asha Handicrafts is one of India’s oldest and most respected Fair Trade organisations, founded in 1975 by a group of concerned professionals committed to social justice and the welfare of Indian artisans. Based in Andheri East, Mumbai, with its manufacturing and resource centre at Vasai, Asha Handicrafts operates with a clear triple mission it calls Trade, Train, and Transform. Through direct partnerships with over 50 producer groups from across India, Asha provides marketing support, design assistance, business training, and fair trade certification to artisan communities, ensuring they receive equitable prices for their handmade goods. The organisation is a certified member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) and the Fair Trade Forum of India. Its product range spans home decor items, lifestyle accessories, stationery, games and toys, office gifts, and corporate gifting solutions, all crafted from natural Indian materials including wood, ceramic, jute, and textiles. Asha exports to over 40 international clients including Oxfam, Serrv, and Ten Thousand Villages. On the retail side, it maintains shops in Mumbai’s Andheri East neighbourhood and has a strong online presence. Asha’s work has transformed the lives of hundreds of artisan families, empowering women and preserving traditional craft skills for future generations.
