AURALEE was founded by Ryota Iwai in 2015 with the ambition of creating clothing that prioritizes material quality above all else. The brand collaborates exclusively with small-scale mills across Japan that specialize in rare and high-quality natural fibers, producing fabrics in small batches that would be commercially unviable for larger companies. This approach results in garments with extraordinary tactility and durability — cashmere that retains its loft for years, linen so fine it drapes like silk, and wool that becomes more beautiful with each wash. Sourcing only natural fibers — organic cotton, merino wool, cashmere, silk, linen, and alpaca — and working with domestic Japanese producers allows AURALEE to maintain full visibility over its supply chain, knowing the origin and processing of every material it uses. The brand’s design philosophy is deliberately understated: relaxed silhouettes in refined neutral tones that transcend seasonal trends, designed to be worn and loved for decades rather than discarded at the end of a fashion cycle. AURALEE operates its Tokyo flagship store in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo’s fashion epicenter, in a space designed by architect Nobuo Araki that emphasizes light, material, and space — values shared by the clothing on the rails. Additional Tokyo locations include concessions within Isetan Shinjuku’s men’s and women’s buildings.
