Description

Causse is one of the most distinguished names in French artisan glove-making, a family business crafting exceptional leather gloves in Millau — the historic capital of French ganterie in the Aveyron — since 1892. For over 130 years, Causse has maintained the traditional techniques of tannage and confection that made Millau famous throughout Europe: stretching, cutting, sewing, and finishing each pair of gloves by hand, using the finest leathers sourced from the best French and international tanneries. Some models require over a hundred individual hand operations before completion, a testament to the complexity and artistry of the craft. The workshop produces gloves in a range of leathers — lambskin, peccary, pigs nappa, deer, and suede — across an extensive palette of colors and styles, from classic silk-lined driving gloves to unlined summer models and embroidered ceremonial pieces. Causse became part of Chanel’s Maisons d’Art ecosystem in 2012, a recognition of its status as one of the last true guardians of French couture glove-making heritage. The Paris boutique at 24 rue Cambon and the Millau manufactory both showcase the full range. Causse holds the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label and is recognized by UNESCO among the Métiers d’Art Rares — the world’s rarest artisan trades. An online shop allows global customers to purchase directly, with bespoke and embroidery services available on request.
