Description

Established in 2020, CRAFSTO was built around the conviction that sustainable materials and traditional Japanese craftsmanship can coexist with contemporary design. The brand’s name is a portmanteau of craft and sustainability, and its collections are created exclusively by skilled Tokyo artisans who handcraft each item individually. CRAFSTO works with a diverse array of plant-derived vegan leathers sourced from around the world, including cactus leather from Nopale plants cultivated in Mexico, apple leather made from juice industry byproducts, and Belgian mushroom leather — all selected for their durability, low environmental impact, and freedom from animal products or cruelty. The brand sources only from traceable, reliable suppliers and applies rigorous standards to every material, including subsidiary components like linings and hardware. Sustainability extends to the store interior itself: the Asakusabashi location was renovated using waste materials produced during manufacturing, including leather scraps incorporated into wall plaster, and all in-store packaging is made from bagasse paper derived from sugarcane waste. CRAFSTO’s production model prioritizes achieving a near-100 percent sales rate by manufacturing only to demand, nearly eliminating the excess inventory and textile waste endemic to the conventional fashion industry. The brand’s genderless approach makes all products accessible to any customer regardless of gender identity. CRAFSTO also engages in upcycling collaborations and actively develops new products from manufacturing waste, reflecting a comprehensive commitment to circular design at every level of its operations.
