Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC)
Description
Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, with its national headquarters located at Gramodaya, Irla Road, Vile Parle West, Mumbai. KVIC is India’s premier institution for the promotion and development of Khadi, the iconic handspun and hand-woven cloth that became a symbol of India’s freedom struggle under Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of self-reliance. The Commission oversees a vast network of Khadi outlets, artisan cooperatives, and village industry units across the country, providing year-round employment to millions of weavers, spinners, and rural craftspeople. KVIC’s product range includes Khadi textiles in cotton, silk, and wool; handloom fabrics; natural cosmetics and personal care products under the Khadi Natural brand; honey; agarbattis; and a wide assortment of village industry goods. The Commission also drives skill development, technology upgradation, and marketing support for artisans. Its flagship retail outlets offer consumers access to authentic, handmade, chemical-free products that support sustainable livelihoods. Under Prime Minister Modi’s vision, KVIC has experienced a renaissance, with Khadi sales reaching record highs and the brand gaining new relevance among India’s urban and global consumers. KVIC embodies the spirit of Make in India and the Swadeshi movement.
