La Rochère
Description
La Rochère holds a unique place in the heritage of European craftsmanship, having operated continuously as a glassworks since 1475 — making it the oldest active glass factory on the continent. Founded by Simon de Thysac in the Haute-Saône forests of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, La Rochère has drawn on its surrounding natural environment for over five centuries. Today La Rochère produces its celebrated collections of pressed and mouth-blown glassware entirely on site at its Passavant-la-Rochère factory, maintaining a remarkable continuity of artisanal technique while embracing contemporary design collaborations. The company’s signature collections are instantly recognizable: the Napoleon Bee, embossed with the imperial emblem; the Versailles collection, inspired by the decorative arts of the French royal court; the Dragonfly and Périgord series; and the clean lines of the Lyonnais and Ouessant ranges, which have become staples of contemporary French bistros and household tables. Each piece carries the distinctive pressed seam that marks it as an authentic product of the La Rochère mold-making tradition. The factory at Passavant-la-Rochère opens seasonally to visitors, and a comprehensive online shop ships across Europe and internationally. All glassware is dishwasher safe, combining over five centuries of craft heritage with practical modern quality. La Rochère’s pieces are recognized worldwide as authentic expressions of French savoir-faire in glass.
