LOVST TOKYO was established in 2018 by Kaito Karasawa with the mission of promoting ethical, sustainable fashion through the development and sale of plant-based leather alternatives. The brand’s flagship material is apple leather, a bio-based alternative made from the pomace — the fiber-rich byproduct of apple juice production — sourced from apple farms in Aomori, Japan, and orchards in Northern Italy. By incorporating approximately 20 to 40 percent apple fiber into the material composition, the brand dramatically reduces the percentage of petroleum-derived resin compared to conventional synthetic leather, lowering carbon dioxide emissions significantly. According to the brand, its products emit up to seven times less CO2 during production compared to animal leather. LOVST TOKYO was founded on the belief that sustainable fashion should never require a compromise on design, and their line of bags, wallets, and belts reflects a modern, gender-inclusive aesthetic that appeals to conscious shoppers across a wide demographic. The brand is also committed to sustainable packaging — using seed paper and eliminating plastic entirely — and offers a repair service to extend the life of its products. A by-appointment showroom in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo’s most prestigious fashion district, provides customers the opportunity to see and touch the products firsthand. The brand participates actively in social causes including veganism, women’s rights, and LGBTQ awareness, and uses eco-friendly reusable packaging through its RePack service to reduce delivery emissions.
