GM Food Spain (Pre-Transgourmet)

GM Food was Spain’s largest independent wholesale food distribution group, operating the Gros Mercat cash-and-carry brand with over 60 centres across Spain focused on the hospitality and professional food trade. Headquartered in Vilamalla, Girona, the company was founded from the Miquel Alimentació Grup family’s independent wholesale operations and grew to become a national leader in cash-and-carry and delivered wholesale for restaurants, bars, hotels, caterers and small food retailers. The group also operated retail franchise networks under the Suma, Proxim and Spar banners. Note: GM Food’s operational cash-and-carry business was integrated into Transgourmet Ibérica (Coop Switzerland subsidiary) as of 2022. However, its legacy network of independent HoReCa cash-and-carry centres continues to operate across Spain under Transgourmet, maintaining the physical infrastructure of the original independent wholesale operator. The original GM Food/Gros Mercat contact channel remains operational for B2B customers as the primary HoReCa wholesale network in Catalonia and beyond.
