Description

Chapultepec Zoo is one of the most visited zoological parks in the world, located within the Bosque de Chapultepec, the largest urban park in Mexico City. Admission is entirely free, making the zoo one of the most accessible wildlife destinations in Latin America and a beloved institution for millions of Mexican families. The zoo is home to more than 200 species, including iconic animals such as giant pandas, polar bears, gorillas, and a wide range of native Mexican wildlife. It was the first zoo outside China to successfully breed giant pandas in captivity, a landmark achievement in conservation history. Managed by the Mexico City government, the zoo is committed to conservation, research, and public education, with programmes designed to raise awareness of biodiversity and environmental protection. Regular keeper talks, educational signage, and family-oriented activities make the zoo a rich learning environment. As both a cultural institution and a conservation centre, Chapultepec Zoo plays an important role in connecting urban communities with the natural world.
