Irish Organic Association (IOA)

The Irish Organic Association (IOA) is a key organization in Ireland’s organic sector, providing certification services, farmer support, and advocacy for the development of organic agriculture across the island. Based in Athlone, the IOA has over 30 years of experience supporting farmers in the transition to and maintenance of certified organic production systems. The association provides detailed guidance on organic farming standards, conversion procedures, and record-keeping requirements, and operates a recognized certification program approved by the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Beyond certification, the IOA plays an active role in developing the organic sector through farmer networking, educational events, and policy engagement. The association collaborates with Teagasc, Bord Bia, and other stakeholders to promote organic farming as a viable and rewarding agricultural system. The IOA publishes resources for farmers considering conversion to organic production and provides ongoing support to certified members through farm visits and advisory services.
