Created in 2020 through the merger of INRA and IRSTEA, INRAE is one of the world’s largest agricultural and environmental research organizations, employing over 12,000 staff across more than 200 research units and experimental facilities throughout France. Headquartered in Paris, INRAE conducts fundamental and applied research across a vast range of topics including plant and animal genetics, agroecology, soil science, hydrology, food safety and quality, nutrition and health, and the socioeconomic dimensions of agricultural transitions. The institute directly addresses major societal challenges including climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity preservation, water resource management, food security, and the health of ecosystems and people. INRAE works in close partnership with farmers, agri-food industry actors, environmental organizations, and national and regional policymakers to ensure that its research outcomes are translated into practical innovations and well-informed public policies. The institute coordinates and participates in major European and international research programs, contributing French scientific expertise to global discussions on the future of food and agriculture. Through its innovation platforms, technology transfer activities, and startup incubation programs, INRAE also supports the commercialization of research results and the development of new sustainable agricultural technologies and practices.
