Nature & Progrès France

Nature & Progrès is one of France’s oldest and most committed associations dedicated to organic and ecological agriculture, having been founded in 1964. Based in Alès in the Gard department, the association represents a broad network of organic farmers, consumers, processors, and distributors united by a shared vision of agriculture that respects nature, human health, and social equity. Nature & Progrès operates its own private organic certification system, which applies standards that in many respects are stricter than official EU organic regulations, particularly regarding the prohibition of all synthetic inputs and the integration of social and ethical criteria. The association advocates for strong and uncompromising organic standards at national and European levels, resisting pressures to weaken regulatory requirements. Nature & Progrès provides training, educational resources, and networking opportunities for its members, fostering a community of practice based on genuine ecological commitment. Its network includes local groups across France that organize markets, events, and awareness-raising activities. The association also publishes a widely read journal on organic and ecological topics.
