Beschrijving

The Museum of Moroccan Elegance is a private cultural space founded by Hakim Cherradi and Meriem Ammor in a 17th-century riad in the Kaat Benahid district of the Marrakech medina, near the historic Ben Youssef Madrasa. The museum honors the life and work of artist and historian Habiba Hantout, who dedicated decades of her life to preserving Morocco’s clothing heritage. Its collection spans 13 centuries of Moroccan fashion history, from detailed miniatures and costumes inherited from Al-Andalus to traditional caftans, embroidered fabrics, and regional dress representing the full diversity of Morocco’s cultural geography. The exhibition space is organized across multiple levels of the riad, with each floor dedicated to a different era or theme in Moroccan textile history. Specially crafted displays illuminate the symbolism behind garments worn during royal ceremonies, religious occasions, and everyday life, helping visitors understand how clothing served as a form of cultural expression and social identity. Audioguides and explanatory texts are available in multiple languages. The museum is open every day from 10 AM to 7 PM, with last entry at 6 PM. Located in the cultural district of the medina surrounded by iconic monuments, it is easily accessible on foot from major attractions including the Almoravid Qubba and the Ben Youssef Madrasa.
